  • i'm new to pilates - what can i expect

Welcome! Reformer Pilates is a full body, resistance based workout which makes it suitable for any ability as you pick your own tension for the exercise.

Reformer Pilates has a similar feel to mat pilates, just with the addition of more equipment.

You won’t leave in buckets of sweat, but should leave feeling stronger, more relaxed, and maybe a little shaky!

We recommend starting with a Beginner flow class to understand how Reformer works, and explore from there.

  • What are the benefits of reformer pilates?

There are countless benefits to Reformer Pilates, but five of the key ones include increased core strength, posture, flexibility, muscle tone, and greater body awareness.

Because it’s low-impact and highly adaptable, Reformer Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

Whether you're recovering from injury, building strength, or simply looking to move with more ease and control, everyone can benefit from incorporating Reformer into their routine.

  • how should i prepare for a class?

Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the class starting to ensure you are on time and ready to start. If you have never done Reformer before, please inform the instructor so we can run you through everything you need to know.

Grip socks are recommended and can be purchased for £10 at the studio.

Please wear clothes which are comfortable to move in and try to avoid tops which are extremely baggy so the instructor can check posture and form

  • is parking available?

    Yes!

For Downend, please use the Coop car park directly behind the studio and then walk onto the high street to find us!

For Speedwell, we have 3 spaces for Bilates customers. If these are not available, please use the empty space to the end of the estate, or the free on-street parking nearby.

  • are private classes available?

Of course! We offer classes on a 1-1 and 1-2 basis which will be tailored to your specific goals or needs. Please email us at hello@bilates.co.uk for more information.

We can also cater for any occassion such as birthday parties, corporate wellness days or hen do’s! Please email us if you wish to know more!

  • Can i cancel my class?

Of course, classes can be cancelled up to 24 hours before your class. This can be done via the link in the momence app or via your account online which will add the credit back to your account.

Classes cancelled within the 24 hour period before the class will not automatically be credited back.

    Please note classes are non-refundable.

  • i'm injured - can i still join?

Yes - but please let your instructor know if you have any injuries or concerns prior to the class as movements can be modified to your needs.

You can also make note of your injuries on the booking form so the instructor is aware prior to the class.

Please always consult with a doctor prior to joining a class if you have any long term injuries or illness.

  • i'm pregnant - can i still join?

Congratulations and yes - Pilates is certainly safe during pregnancy with certain modifications. We also have a pregnancy wedge available to allow you to lay safely on your back!

HOWEVER, for your safety, please only join a class if you have already done reformer pilates prior to being pregnant!

We are not taking on new clients who are pregnant and never tried reformer pilates before!

Please consult your doctor before joining a class for confirmation of your needs.

  • I’m going to be late - what can I do?

Please let us know via instagram DM if you know in advance that you will be a few minutes late.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept customers to attend a class if you are more than 10 minutes late as it would not be safe to attend after missing the warm up.

Please note, our Downend studio will lock its doors after 10 minutes given its high street location and to prevent potential in the class! We hope you can understand!

  • Can I hire the studio?

Yes! If you are a Reformer instructor and wanting to hire a space to take private sessions then please get in touch via hello@bilates.co.uk.
